The article “The Urban Edges”, published in Azure, presents the projects Border Library and Public Park, Border Overlook and Market Plaza, and the Community Development Center, designed by Fernanda Canales as part of the Urban Social Infrastructure Program promoted by SEDATU. All three are located in cities along the U.S.–Mexico border —the first in Agua Prieta, Sonora, and the latter two in Naco, Sonora— addressing contexts shaped by migration, inequality, and the lack of quality public spaces.
The text examines how these interventions, situated on the urban margins, transform peripheral areas through civic architecture, sustainable design, and social inclusion, proposing new models of equitable and resilient urban development.
