Border Overlook and Market Plaza Naco, Sonora, Mexico, 2023

Conceived as a community retreat, this project aims to reduce city traffic while introducing new public spaces that give the city a renewed identity. The challenge was to create a landmark structure capable of accommodating diverse future programs without sacrificing its distinctive character and strong presence. Vaulted ceilings and a rhythmic colonnade define an open building made of minimal elements. Behind its apparent simplicity, the complex functions as a vibrant hub and gateway to the border town of Naco. Beyond the covered market, it includes an open-air forum and a watchtower offering panoramic views rarely found in the low-rise, horizontally oriented towns of Sonora along the Mexico–United States border.
